Eye for an Eye by TylerCreatesWorlds Eye for an Eye by TylerCreatesWorlds
Been wanting to make a nebulae like this for a while now. I think it looks pretty okay. Spent a lot of time on the shape of this bad boy. It's an eye, if you couldn't tell.

Painted in photoshop about 7 hours
No textures, fractals, or photos.

Fav, comment, and all that jazz

Very striking! A wonderful dance between blisteringly hot blues/whites to cooler oranges/reds. Incredibly fine detail throughout the piece with no visible lacking sectors anywhere. Truly wonderful and majestic piece.

Where to improve; After studying a photo of a real nebula (Helix Nebula) I noticed that the detail of the "debris" between the super nova and the space dust is being thrown away from the center in a very direct manner (imagine 1 point perspective lines). In your painting however, there are, in my opinion, too many wispy tails that seem to sway around too much that show it wasn't that strong an explosion (the blue sector). Another thing I noticed that although the very fine lines within the clouds add an incredible level of detail, some areas of the lines look very much like they were in fact drawn and not "formed in space". I would recommend running a smudge pass over these lines just to break up the perfect flow of them. It's a time consuming process but it makes the clouds look that much more fuller, fluffier and realistic. This is of course if your intended effect was to be super-realism. Otherwise, truly beautiful.

I am doing some corrections - adding your name and linking your site to the comments - over at Pinterest. As you noted, people cut off your name and link: at Pinterest, they then add something like nasa.gov as the source Rage

NO! I found its creator! That is amazing, I'm sure I could think of other words to describe such marvelous work but right now I'm still a bit surprised that out of nowhere I found who created this piece of art. Thank you for it!

Some "facts book" account with 1.5M followers just tweeted saying that this was a real nebula called "the Eye of the Cosmos" and that this picture here was taken from the Hubble Telescope. Sounds like copyright infringement to me, thought you might want to know

Thanks, I left a little comment on it. How are they gonna be about "facts" and mistake my art for a Hubble image? Not even close.

Stunning.

I was looking for a 2560x1440 image of the actual Helix Nebula for my work iMac, and images of that size -that I really want to look at for days at a time- are few and far between.  Your image knocked me back in my seat for a moment.  The reason I found your identity is that I wanted to know what space-based telescope took THAT photo!  Eventually I realized that the image was too spectacular to be a photograph, and that it must be a created work.  (The smaller 'pupil' in your image is what finally gave it away.)  Eventually the search led me to your page here on Deviant.

I have no criticisms to offer, I merely sit in slack-jawed appreciation.

.....wow....

Not only this is an amazing work, but it is also exceptionally realistic. In fact, I just found it on a fb page, which gave credit to Hubble Space Telescope itself! And it fooled a lot of people, among which some collegue of mine, that is, students of astronomy! :D As I said, beautiful work.

This is amazing! You capture the true beauty of space—how it's a never ending mass of pure anonymous. I think you should draw the Helix (Eye of God) Nebula. I believe you, of all people, would be able to capture the lapsing waves of dark matter, the silky flow of air, and the vast unknown of the Helix Nebula. Thank you for your extraordinary art work.
Truly, Alice Holmes.

This looks fantastic, but I wish there was a resolution appropriate for my tablet.

While my tablet has a display resolution of 2560x1600 (a resolution you include), it does things like wallpaper scrolling and rotation between landscape and portrait, and thus requires a size of 3966x2560. It's a Nexus 10, in case you're curious.

Yeah, I don't usually do pictures in that size unless they've been commissioned.
